Portable diagnostic platform
Diagnostics, closer to where life happens.
BioMEMS Diagnostics is developing a single-use cartridge, a handheld analyzer and a connected app, designed to bring laboratory-type testing to the point of need.

The challenge
Complex tests still mean waiting for a lab.
When a question needs more than a yes-or-no answer, the sample usually travels: collected in one place, analysed in a central laboratory, reported back later.
Outside the lab, today's options tend to be either large, costly analyzers that started life as laboratory equipment, or simple strips that give only basic answers.

Where fast, detailed answers matter
- Emergency rooms
- Accident scenes
- Remote and field clinics
- Military medicine
- Chronic care at home
Conventional testingThe sample travels.
- Sample collected
- Shipped to a central lab
- Queued and analysed
- Result reported back
With BioMEMSThe test travels.
- Sample collected
- Cartridge into the analyzer
- Result on a paired phone
Concept: the test travels to the sample, not the other way round.
The question
But how do you know it’s actually working?
Supplements. Workouts. Eating right. But how do you know it's actually working? BioMEMS Diagnostics.
The platform
Three parts, designed as one system.
The cartridge, the analyzer and the app are developed together, from the moment a sample is added to the moment a result is shared.

Single-use test cartridge
Cartridge
Takes one small sample and is designed to run up to ten different tests from it. At its centre is BioMEMS' patent-pending biosensor chip.

Handheld analyzer
Analyzer
The cartridge goes upright into the top of the compact reader, which runs its tests. Designed to be used without laboratory training.

Connected app
App
Results appear on a paired smart device and can be shared with a doctor or sent to a medical record.
Applications
One platform.
Many use cases.
BioMEMS is developing one diagnostic platform for many use cases, five of them shown here. The cartridge, the analyzer and the app stay the same in each; the test chemistry inside is adapted to the use.
Application areas reflect the company's current development focus. Specific tests remain subject to development, validation and, where required, regulatory review.

Fitness
Effort is easy to measure. Effect is not.
BioMEMS' first product in development is a healthy-aging test designed for home or gym use: one sample, ten health insights, results on a phone. For people who train seriously, that could bring biology into the conversation alongside pace and load.

Healthy aging
Aging well starts with knowing more.
The healthy-aging panel in development covers areas such as systemic inflammation, oxidative stress, heart and circulation, and cellular aging, built by converting established laboratory tests to the BioMEMS platform.

Infection
When infection is the question, time matters.
Infectious disease is among the areas the platform is being explored for, including sexually transmitted and hospital-acquired infections, where answers at the point of care could support earlier decisions.

Animal health
For patients who can't describe their symptoms.
A leading animal-health company has engaged BioMEMS to develop a canine cognitive-health test, delivered on the same platform: the same cartridge, the same analyzer, the same app.

Emergency & defense
Answers in the field, not only in the lab.
Emergency rooms, ambulances, accident scenes, remote clinics and military medicine all need detailed answers fast. A handheld analyzer and a single-use cartridge are designed to work where a laboratory is not.
Many use cases
Same cartridge. Different chemistry.
Every application uses the same cartridge, the same analyzer and the same app. What changes is invisible from the outside: the test chemistry applied to the twelve wells of the sensor disc inside.
Think of a blank disc. The sensor is the same every time, so it can be mass-produced; each test is written onto it afterwards, like music onto the same CD.
See inside the cartridgeTechnology
Engineered as a platform, not a single test.

- 10tests
- Up to ten different tests from a single sample, by design.
- 12wells
- On the sensor disc, each prepared with the chemistry for its test.
- 1chip
- One standard biosensor chip for every test, so it can be made at scale.
- A patent-pending biosensor chip at the centre of every cartridge.
- Built for immunoassays, the protein tests that make up the widest part of diagnostics.
- Fully digital from sample to report, with results that can be sent to the cloud or a medical record.
